Why hate One Piece?

I mean, it’s just a modern day Gulliver’s Travels that cleverly lampoon’s the history of the world and countless culture’s mythologies while under the guise of a kids comic. It’s just this kid, Luffy, setting out to fulfill his dream of becoming the Pirate King and simultaneously fulfill his promise to his childhood hero, Red Haired Shanks who saved Luffy’s life and lost his arm in the process, thus severely hindering him for the rest of his life.

And of course Zoro’s just trying to become the world’s strongest swordsman so that his name will reach the heavens where Kuina rests after the tragic accident the night after each promised the other to train hard for the title of world’s strongest.

Then Nami who’s mother was killed infront of her and her adopted sister, she just wants to travel the world and chart every ocean and landmass. And all Usopp wants to do is follow in his fathers footsteps, who he spent his entire childhood waiting for as his mother slowly died before his eyes.

And of course Chopper just wants to create a panacea after Dr. Hiruluk tells him that any illness can be cured, although he couldn’t even save himself and ended up going out in a blaze of glory to stand up against the Stallin’esque leader of his country who had ordered a sort of genocide and had all the doctors of the island executed save for 20 that would only serve him.

And we can’t forget Sanji who just wants to find this legendary ocean in which all the fish of the world live; this being an especially pressing matter after Red Foot Zeff saved his life by giving him all the food supplies while both of them were stranded and living by eating his own leg- the very one that had won Zeff fame as a pirate.

Oh and of course Robin just wants to discover the lost history of the world, the one that her mother and the inabitants of her home town searched for, the very forbidden knowledge that brought destruction to the island resulting in the extinction of the people of Ohara and the islands erasure from all world maps.

Then of course Franky, the hidden Mafia Boss of Water 7 who lived under that false name after the World Government framed both he and his family for attacking a judiciary ship. He should’ve tried to escape but instead stood infront of the train that carried off his adopted Father, Tom. The very train that he, Tom and Iceburg had sweat blood and pain to build between the few dying islands of the area to revive commerce and save their populations.

It’s just about those few characters and their adventures through the OP world, each one uncovering more and more of the mystery that shrowds the world in which the story takes place and bringing to light amazing information about the civilizations and development of the Grand Line and the lives of the people they meet from port to port.

Just a simple fun-loving story that continually makes its audience smile both here and in over 13 other countries every week. This simple little story that has continually topped manga sales charts and has broken every single sales record in Japan since its beggining in 1997. This little story that looks so decieving and childish that most people don’t give it a second glance let alone bother reading it, and that when 4kids saw it and realized how much money it had made in Japan, Germany, France, Singapore and countless other countries they snapped it up immediately, hardly aware of the amount of maturity this rediculous looking little comic contained.

This little story that has had over 43% of it removed since being released on American TV and had a complete character and music write-over to better suit the intended audience of 6-12 year old children which in turn destroyed the framework plot of this epic.

Yes, I don’t understand why some children bash it and continue to call it silly and dumb and insist that every other hack-author’s work is vastly superior to Oda’s because theirs is more kawaii and sugoi and has more death and blood, senseless killing and meaningless character deaths. Those that say One Hundred Million books sold means nothing to them and all the people who bought it over Naruto, Inu Yasha, FMA and every other cookie-cutter story out on the shelves are fools.

Sure I’m an OP fan, but that isn’t a bad thing! OP fans have a blast! We network with other fans all over the world! I’ve gotten a chance to meet one of them while on a trip to London and she made the vacation one of the most fun I’ve ever had in my life! And I’ve met still dozens more in my own state who I make a point to visit frequently and laugh it up with every free weekend I get. My friend Nathan in California is an OP fan and he’s currently chasing his dream of becoming a comic author and working with TokyoPop this moment on his story “Atomic King Daidogan” which will have dozens of OP references! My Japanese teacher and TA have fallen in love with the story and we’ve had wonderful weekends studying up by reading over old chapters, she’s graduating this year and moving out of state unfortunatly, but we still chat every week as I send her the new One Piece chapter. My parents and I laugh as we discuss the new OP chapters whenever I’m home from college on holiday, they couldn’t believe the quality of the messages it taught until I let them watch K-F’s subtitled episodes. Another friend of mine who I met through the OP fandom has been kind enough to host my own silly little comic and pictures and thanks to her I’ve met still more fans of the series who brighten my life both on the internet and in real life!

So come to the One Piece fan way of life, we have cookies, brownies, cake, cocovan, spaghetti, cheesecake squares, yorkshire pudding, french toast, mango-chocolate delights and many other dishes my friends and I have made when we get a chance to visit each other and give thanks that a series such as One Piece could bring so many people together from all over not only the country, but the world as well.

^ Basically that sums up everything I also wanted to say ^_^

What made me interested in One Piece is it’s plot, storyline and character developments, not to mention the humor..
One Piece has a great balance of humor, drama and action, that’s probably the reason why I’m still following OP and probably most people too ^^;;

The “art” didn’t bothered me that much. I dunno, the art is just NORMAL to me (nothing bizarre or whatsoever ). Actually Oda’s OP Colorspreads are my big favorites. I dunno, but I just laugh when people say that they don’t like OP because of it’s bizarre art. It’s just a shallow reason for me, heheh..

Anyway, to each to his own? ne?
